What is raku?
Raku is a low-temperature firing approach with roots in 16th-century Japan. In today’s Western practice, pieces are removed from the kiln while red-hot and placed in combustible materials, which creates the dramatic crackle and smoke-marked surfaces you see here. Every firing is unique, so each piece is truly one-of-a-kind.
